New Unpublished Title: ROBIN AND THE SNACK HEIST by Matthew Graeme
Children's picture book writer
NSW, Australia.
I am Matthew Graeme and I write.
Why I write has a layered answer. I started writing because I love the idea of being an author. However, I sometimes feel like an imposter because of it. I don't have the coveted history of always wanting the dream of being a published author and that thought has been a barrier to my goal throughout my journey.
However, like a beloved side character, the desire has appeared and reappeared over the years until it finally took root. A which point I learnt something about why I write.
I have written many a story over the years. Stories that I never intend to publish or even let see the light of day or that of my computer screen, again. Which seems contradictory to someone who claims to want to get published. Produce work that isn't supposed to be produced as work? What a waste. And yet, I enjoy it. I've heard it said that an author needs to find the answer to a fundamental question, "Do you want write or to have written?". And I want to write.
To clarify though, I don't just write for fun. I do intend to get published and that dream, however sporadic over the years, will come true. But I do love the process and there is a joy to writing that reading alone cannot match.
So, like I said, it's a layered answer. I write to produce work but if that work doesn't pan out, at least I'm having fun.
